Kiwanis Leader newsletter goes online
The Kiwanis Leader bimonthly leadership newsletter is making the leap to online publishing. The February/March newsletter will be the final printed hard copy mailed. The new online format will debut with the April/May 2007 Kiwanis Leader online.
No subscription copies of this issue of the Kiwanis Leader were mailed to clubs. Clubs subscribing to extra copies of the Leader were billed for the publishing cycle ending January 31, 2007 only, which does not include the February/March issue. |
The move to publishing online is not only in keeping with newsletter publishing trends, but also will make the publication more useful and more cost effective. For example, by publishing online, Internet “hotlinks” can be inserted into articles, directly putting readers literally just a click away from other valuable leadership tools. And with many of Kiwanis International’s resources available online, the Leader will be in line with other materials clubs can access from one source.
And of course, there’s the financial aspect, a win-win for clubs and the Leader’s budget. As a printed publication, two complimentary copies of each Leader issue were mailed to each club in North America via club secretaries. In addition, clubs had the option to subscribe to more copies. As an online newsletter, the Leader will be accessible to anyone for the subscription cost of $0. In return, the Leader will see a reduction in costs associated with printing and postage.
“With the Web moving to the forefront of Kiwanis’ communications and resource tools, it makes sense to be proactive in retooling the Kiwanis Leader into an electronic newsletter that will better serve its readers,” says publications director Jack Brockley. “Putting the Kiwanis Leader online allows us to publish more timely articles, create interactivity between the publication and its readers, insert ‘hotlinks’ to pertinent articles and other resources, and generally better serve the Kiwanians who serve the world.”
Readers will find The Kiwanis Leader via the Member Resources link, and each issue of KIWANIS Connected electronic magazine will include a link to the latest Kiwanis Leader from its “Leadership” tab.
