Friendship, empathy in the bag
K-Kids from King’s Ridge Christian School, Alpharetta, Georgia, are friends, indeed, to children in need. Recently, club members participated in the Forsyth County Child Advocacy Center’s “A Friend’s House” holiday duffle bag program.

“This program is designed to allow organizations, like our K-Kids club, to collect much-needed hygiene and teen items for children who are in very stressful situations,” notes Bill Staley of the Alpharetta Kiwanis club. In addition to toiletries and other similar items, Bill says the K-Kids collected gender- and age-specific items including reading materials, handheld media devices, stuffed animals, art supplies, and entertainment passes.
After collecting the items, the club’s 40 members sorted the goods and put them in bags. The bags, in turn, were stuffed into duffle bags or backpacks and given to children who, for one reason or another, have been removed from their homes.
“It is hoped,” Bill adds, “that this gift will ease the child’s transition from his or her ‘biological home’ to a foster or placement home.” |
