Catch the wave of Hawaiian music
Music and Hawaii go together naturally. The islands have inspired traditional
classics such as Aloha ’Oe and Hilo March, as well
as Hawaii Five-O, My Little Grass Shack in Kealakekua Hawaii, and
an emerging array of contemporary Hawaiian jazz.
So,
when Kiwanians arrive in Honolulu for the July 2-6 Kiwanis
International Convention, they’ll immerse themselves in the
music of the islands. Two of Hawaii’s most treasured musical groups are
scheduled to perform during the convention:
Founded by the royal decree of King Kamehameha III in
1836, the Royal
Hawaiian Band features repertoire that links the islands’
past and present.
Halau Hula ’O Hokulani is a school with a mission to preserve
Hawaii’s traditions, and its award-winning hula dancers present their
craft to groups dedicated to helping persons who have physical and mental
disabilities. Kiwanis certainly qualifies.
