Catch the wave of Hawaiian music

Music and Hawaii go together naturally. The islands have inspired traditional classics such as Aloha ’Oe and Hilo March, as well as Hawaii Five-O, My Little Grass Shack in Kealakekua Hawaii, and an emerging array of contemporary Hawaiian jazz.

The Royal Hawaiian Band performs in its hometown, Honolulu. So, when Kiwanians arrive in Honolulu for the July 2-6 Kiwanis International Convention, they’ll immerse themselves in the music of the islands. Two of Hawaii’s most treasured musical groups are scheduled to perform during the convention:

•  Founded by the royal decree of King Kamehameha III in 1836, the Royal Hawaiian Band features repertoire that links the islands’ past and present.

•  Halau Hula ’O Hokulani is a school with a mission to preserve Hawaii’s traditions, and its award-winning hula dancers present their craft to groups dedicated to helping persons who have physical and mental disabilities. Kiwanis certainly qualifies.

Grab your grass skirt and flowered shirt for the fun, fellowship, and music of the 90th Annual Kiwanis International Convention.
