Mother Nature wants her children back
There are children who rarely hear a bird chirp. Some youngsters never
stomp in mud. Row a boat. Fly a kite. Some kids rarely commune with Mother
Nature.
One expert terms this loss of environmental connectedness “nature deficit
disorder,” and the April issue of KIWANIS magazine takes a look at the
causes and the consequences.
Of course, Kiwanis clubs do their best to encourage children to explore
the outdoors, as readers will discover in the April issue’s special playground
section. Other stories to look for:
- Pet Sounds: the connection between animals and human health
- Making Service Count: keeping projects—and clubs—relevant to today’s
needs
- Hail, Kiwanis: the story of a world-traveling author who credits
Kiwanis for making a difference in her childhood
- My Kiwanis Moment: a kindness rendered bears membership fruit 20
years later.
