My Kiwanis moment
“Eight thousand feet up in the Bhutan Himalayas, a public-service doctor
told us that until Kiwanis arrived to help with the IDD (iodine deficiency
disorders) program, he saw 400 to 500 children each year with goiters.
Now that we were fulfilling our Worldwide Service Project commitment (to
virtually eliminate IDD), he had seen only six new goiter cases that year,
1998.”— John G. Tyner II, Kiwanis Club of Rockville, Maryland
(John was part of a Kiwanis/UNICEF team visiting Bhutan to assess
the effectiveness of Kiwanis’ investment in the nation’s IDD-elimination
program.) |
