Embark on a service adventure

A person’s travel itinerary may list rainforest monkeys, royal temples, snake charmers, and volcanoes.

Plenty of friendships are in store with the voluntourism programA person’s service plans may include teaching children, assisting at a medical clinic, and protecting a river environment.

A person’s social agenda may prioritize new friendships.

A Kiwanian can do all three at once.

In partnership with Kiwanis International, Ambassadors for Children (AFC) announces seven “voluntourism” packages for Kiwanians. The experiences blend touring adventures with service opportunities and the fun of fellowship. Future AFC/Kiwanis events are:

  • Raft down the Sarapiqui River through a lush Costa Rican rainforest, where hummingbirds buzz, toucans chatter, woodpeckers peck, monkeys monkey around, and Amid a spectacular array of fauna and flora, AFC volutourists assist Costa Rican schoolchildren and lend their helping hands at a conservation learning center. sloths laze in treetops. AFC offers three opportunities to visit Costa Rica: April 1-8, May 19-26, and October 21-28. In addition to enjoying one of Earth’s most splendid ecosystems, volunteers will work side-by-side with residents at the Sarapiqui Conservation Learning Center. Click below for more details:
  • Walk in the footsteps of kings in Bangkok, Thailand’s Grand Palace. Scheduled May 31 to June 10, the Thai experience promises a boat trip along the Chao Phya River, balanced by a five-day project to build a classroom and possibly help teach children in an area hit hard by the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami.   • Discover one of the world’s great civilizations while exploring Mayan ruins in El Salvador, June 17-24. Local Kiwanians have established Villa Kiwanis to provide housing for victims of a 2001 earthquake. The AFC/Kiwanis tour group will work with El Salvadoran Kiwanians to assist the families, as well as care for malnourished infants. Click here for more details.
  • Service and beauty are in store with the voluntourism program Take tea with Her Royal Highness Princess Katherine of Serbia after helping to teach orphan children. The trip to Belgrade is scheduled for August 5-12. Click here for more details.
  • Witness fire eaters, snake charmers, and acrobats in the streets of Marrakech during Ambassadors for Children’s expedition to Morocco, September 16-23. Romantic, exotic Casablanca also is on the agenda, as well as a day of volunteering at L’Heure Joyeuse. There, AFC volunteers will support staff in a program to treat malnourished babies.   • Live as citizens of Rome once lived by joining the AFC trip to Jordan, October 21-28. In addition to visiting the city of Jerash, which has been restored to its Roman Empire days, tourist will help with educational and humanitarian services as Palestinian refugee camps.
