Dan GattisCLUB: Kiwanis Club of Georgetown, Texas

INDUCTED: International Association of Fairs and Exposition’s Hall of Fame. The award is presented annually in recognition of an individual’s distinguished achievement in, or contribution to, the fair industry.

A GREAT THRILL: “To look out and see people who had received the award and a room full of people who are more than eligible to receive the award makes you very appreciative you are the one being honored,” Dan says.

INVOLVEMENT: Dan was with the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo for 27 years, most of that time severing as general manager. With a staff of about 90 and some 15,000 volunteers, the organization staged a fair that drew more than 1.5 million people and was able to award more that $7 million a year in scholarships and other education projects. The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo partnered with the Houston Texans (NFL team), and Harris Country in the design and construction of Reliant Stratum and Reliant Center.

DAN’S RANCH: Gattis Cattle Company is a small cattle operation involving the entire family. The ranch raises Beefmaster cattle on land that has been in the Gattis family for more than 100 years.

A KIWANIS-FAMILY MEMBER: At Midway High School in Waco, Texas, Dan served as president of the Key Club, and while a student at Southwest Texas State (now Texas State) he was active in Circle K.
