Prayer Week approaches

Worldwide Kiwanis International Prayer Week is scheduled for May 8-14 this year. During that time, clubs are encouraged to schedule an appropriate club meeting program, service project, or fundraiser with a spiritual theme or purpose.

A guest speaker discusses the importance of prayer. The Kiwanis Club of Big Lagoon, Florida, stages an annual prayer breakfast to which it invites guest speakers, diverse religious leaders from its community, and musical guests. This past year, the event focused on United States service members in combat.

“David Gibson, guest speaker from the Naval Aviation Chapel in Pensacola, spoke on the importance of prayer and faith as it applies to service members,” says Kiwanis member Eileen Brotherton. “He then asked for the names of sons, daughters, and friends serving in harm’s way in Iraq and concluded with a prayer asking God to keep them safe and under his protection.”

An easy-to-personalize media release is available online to help clubs publicize their Kiwanis Prayer Week events.
