World celebrates 90 years
of service
In the grand scheme of things, 90 years isn’t
really a long time. When you take into account all the things accomplished
by Kiwanis International during that time, however, it’s another story
altogether—and it’s one worth sharing with the world.
The Bruxelles Agglomeration Division
of the Belgium-Luxemburg District organized a gala evening
to celebrate. More than 150 people from the Kiwanis clubs of Belgium
and France attended, including Belgium-Luxembourg
District Governor Peter Winkelmolen, who thanked Kiwanis International
Trustee Wahib Aladin, and Netherlands District governor
Leo Teiwes for their presence.
The evening included speakers sharing their
impressions of Kiwanis’ history and its achievements during the past 90
years—including the success of the Worldwide Service Project to virtually
eliminate iodine deficiency disorders. A drawing to benefit the Kiwanis
International Foundation’s Disaster Relief Fund concluded the evening.
Inter-clubs seem a popular and fitting way
to celebrate Kiwanis’ nine-decade anniversary.
The Kiwanis Club of Woodland Hills, California, hosted
a birthday celebration for Kiwanis’ 90th year, complete with balloons
and many guests. Twelve of the Woodland Hills members plus more than 20
from the Kiwanis clubs of Canoga Park, Northridge, Warner Center-Woodland
Hills, Calabasas-Agoura, and Van Nuys
made for a fitting inter-club celebration. The Kiwanis clubs of
Tellico Village, Loudon, and Athens, Tennessee,
also celebrated birthday-style complete with cake during their inter-club.
The Long Island South Central Division of the
New York District staged an evening of music
while fellow New Yorkers from the Cohoes Kiwanis
club invited all to enjoy cake at a party at an area senior center.
