Key Club awards two top honors
The Key of Honor long has been regarded as Key Club International’s top
honor. This year, New Jersey District administrator
Barrie H. Werfel, and Chaparral, Kansas, Key Club advisor
Robert E. “Bob” Hottman, are awarded the Key of Honor for their absolute
devotion to youth and Key Club International.
Barrie
began his Kiwanis involvement in 1971. He was New Jersey district governor
in 1995-96 and currently is a member of the Kiwanis Club of Livingston.
He started his Key Club involvement in 1972 as a Kiwanis advisor to the
Key Club of West Essex High School and went on to serve
23 years as a member of the New Jersey District Kiwanis Committee on Key
Clubs. He became the Key Club district administrator, his current position,
in 1998.
Key of Honor recipient Bob Hottman, is retiring as advisor of the Chaparral
Key Club after 34 years in that position.
Bob’s
Kiwanis involvement began in 1973 when he joined the Kiwanis Club
of Anthony, Kansas. Bob continues with the same club today and
has been president several times during that time. He also is active with
the Kansas District Foundation and was awarded a Kiwanis International
Foundation Tablet of Honor.
Bob began his Key Club involvement in 1970, when he became the advisor
of the Chaparral club. In that capacity, he has attended 33 district conventions
(missing only one because of his father’s death) and 22 International
conventions.
Barrie and Robert will receive the Key of Honor at the 62nd Annual Key
Club International Convention in Atlanta, Georgia, this summer.
