‘C’ is for cookie (and cash)
Through cookie sales, connections with the Waukesha Kiwanis club,
and business donations, the Circle K Club of the University of
Wisconsin-Waukesha raised a record amount for its annual “adopt-a-family”
drive.
After setting a goal of US$500, the group gathered $550 in cash and another
$240 in gift certificates from Kohl’s Department Stores. Circle K’ers
raised most of the money by appealing to college students’ greatest vulnerability:
their stomachs. The group plopped a table down near the student cafeteria
and watched students drop handfuls of change for a cookie and a good cause.
“It’s because we have cookies,” club member Jessica Franklin said of
the group’s success. “Students like the cookies. We’re now known as the
cookie group.”
