Paint job adds coat of school pride
Sometimes it’s the simple things that mean the most. That’s what members
of the Key Club of St. Hilda’s Diocesan High School in Brown’s
Town, St. Ann, Jamaica, hope to convey with one of their recent
service projects.
The caring Key Club members volunteered to paint their school entrance
to make it more welcoming to students, teachers, and visitors who enter
through the school’s main door. Both sides of the entrance were painted,
as well as the center wall, which now sports the school’s name due to
the capable students’ brush strokes.
Though the project wasn’t complicated, the Key Club—and the school—see
it as a success. Cost for the project to paint the St. Hilda’s high school
entrance was about US$50. Key Club members raised the needed funds through
a walkathon in Ocho Rios, St. Ann.
“Giving back to your school doesn’t always mean donating large sums of
money or giving large gifts,” says club member Kathryn Seow. “It can simply
mean helping to build your school, contributing to the development of
your learning environment, and showing appreciation.” |
