What’s the connection?

Life-saving donations

Though Italians have a proud reputation of generous organ donation, Sicily recently found itself last on the list of donors among Italian regions. The Kiwanis Club of Castelvetrano hopes to change that. The club organized an organ-donation awareness event, inviting the public to hear remarks by medical specialists, patients awaiting organ donation, patients who’ve received donated organs, and people who have agreed to donate organs.

“Our hope is that the event will take away doubts regarding organ donation, doubts that even today restrain people from helping others who are in need,” says club member Salvatore Ferro, noting that many organ donation experts have agreed to participate.

The Kiwanians’ event is timely: It will be staged during Italy’s National Organ Donation Week.
