Terrific Kids program moves to evening

Timing is everything. Just ask the proud Florida parents who now get to see their children honored as “Terrific Kids.”

Students line, as before, for Terrific Kids recognition, but now their proud parents are able to watch.“We started our program about 19 years ago by taking photos of the elementary students and putting them into Terrific Kids buttons,” says Joel Rosen, member of the Kiwanis Club of Flagler, Palm Coast, Florida.

The club arranges a ceremony, where each child is summoned onstage to receive her/his awards: a certificate, trophy, sticker, and a McDonald’s restaurant coupon. Though the program was successful, one change has made all the difference.

“This year we changed the ceremony to an evening affair so more parents, as well as Kiwanis members, could attend,” Joel says. “It has been an overwhelming success.

“Watching the faces of the parents see their children get awards is heartwarming.”
