Circle K charters club in Alaska
The Pacific Northwest District welcomed the University of Alaska Fairbanks (UAF) to Circle K International this past March. The club, with 22 members, is the only club in Alaska. But that soon will change.
“The UAF club adds a new perspective to our district,” says Darren Page, 2006-07 Pacific Northwest District Circle K governor. “Key Club already has many district leaders from Alaska, so this is an important step for CKI to learn from our little brother organization.”
Laura McInnes, immediate past governor, points out this is not the first club to charter in Alaska—just the first in a long time.
“Alaska actually had its first Circle K club in 1961 at Alaska Pacific University,” she says. “I think it is very important that we have clubs in Alaska again. Ideally, we look at the future of Circle K International and see a club in every college campus around the world. This is just getting us one step closer to that dream.”
The UAF club soon will be joined by a Circle K club at the University of Anchorage, which recently submitted a charter petition and currently is finalizing the adoption of its bylaws. |
