Plan now for fall’s flu season
Many health experts think a bullet was dodged this past flu season, which was relatively mild. But that doesn’t mean the coming flu season can be taken for granted. Actually, they warn, 2006-07 likely won’t follow 2005-06’s pattern.
“The experts have been saying we are due for a severe flu season,” says Ronald Stern, product director for Chiron Vaccines. “Last year’s is not a predicator for the next year.”
As such, Elizabeth Warren, service programs manager at Kiwanis International, suggests clubs begin planning now for fall’s THRIVE program. Doing so will help educate, prepare, and protect their communities from the flu.
“A THRIVE—Tackling the Health Risk of Influenza with Vaccination and Education—kit will be made available to US Kiwanis clubs later this summer,” Elizabeth says. “The kit will contain customizable pieces, brochures, posters, PowerPoint presentations on CD, and PSAs on CD.”
