Rip Van Winkle would not need the services of the Charlevoix, Michigan, Aktion Club. Afterall, the fabled snoozer could sleep anywhere, anytime. But disadvantaged families and the children of the world do.

The club conducts at least two projects that help others rest peacefully.

During the Charlevoix Apple Festival, Aktion Club members collected blankets, which were delivered to the Women’s Resource Center, Salvation Army, Moms and Tots Center, and Michigan Department of Human Services.

“The blankets are wonderful,” wrote Jamie Winters, Safe Home coordinator for the Women’s Resource Center.

“You are great,” wrote Moms and Tots Center director Carole Broadrick. “Now that winter seems to have actually set in, our moms are on the lookout for warm things, including your beautiful blankets. They are so fine and big. What a blessing you have been to us.”

The club also conducted a penny drive to support Aktion Club’s global service initiative, Sleeping Children Around the World. Members raised US$131.46 to help purchase bed kits for children in underdeveloped countries.
