CLUB: Kiwanis Club of Logan, Utah

WINNER: Janet won the May 2005 KIWANIS Connected reader participation contest and will receive a Kiwanis photo album. Click here for details about the July 2005 contest.

MEMORABLE SERVICE: On behalf of the Logan Kiwanis club, Janet recently visited five elementary schools and passed out 32 Hope of America awards. “The club awarded 114 framed certificates in 18 schools,” she says. “It is really incredible how prestigious these awards are in the schools. I often meet people who received this award when they were in school and are still very proud of the fact that they were honored by Kiwanis.”

KIWANIS CLAUS: Janet and her husband, Skip, are Mr. and Mrs. Claus at Christmastime. “We receive letters to Santa from the clients at the Cache Employment and Training Center and fill their Christmas wishes. They are mentally challenged adults who are learning to work on a production line for extra money to become a little more independent.”

Two years ago, the Flinders-Clauses distributed US$3,300 worth of presents to 90 clients. This past Christmas, Santa’s gift bag was filled with $8,100 worth of gifts.

“For some of these individuals, this is the only Christmas present they receive,” Janet says. “It touches you in a way that nothing else can. This is the true spirit of Christmas. By giving you receive back much more.”
