Key Leader goes to college
Key Leader, Kiwanis International’s new leadership training program for
high school students, took on a decidedly different look at Washburn University
in Topeka, Kansas.
Rather than rustic cabins, students stayed
in dorms. Gone were the large gathering rooms popular in many camps. Instead,
participants met in state-of-the-art facilities. Students enjoyed living
on a college campus for a couple of days, as well as the opportunity to
gain new knowledge and leadership skills to practice in their homes, schools,
Key Club meetings, and personal lives.
“I had a blast this weekend,” a Key Club lieutenant
governor wrote. “I learned a lot this weekend, not just about Key Club
but about making myself a better leader.”
When asked, “What did you learn this weekend,”
another attendee remarked: “Leaders come in all shapes and sizes with
all different opinions…that working together and respecting each other
is the key to life.”
