New honorary recognizes dedication to Key Club
Kiwanian and International Office staff member A.G. Terry Shaffer was known as the “epitome of Kiwanis” and as a dedicated proponent of the Kiwanis family. It is fitting that a new honorary—recognizing those who have gone above and beyond in support of a local Key Club community, and humankind—bears his name.

“The purpose of the A.G. Terry Shaffer Honorary is to recognize someone special whose life is dedicated to supporting Key Club activities,” says John Sloan, Executive Director of the Kiwanis International Foundation.
The Shaffer Honorary is the highest level of recognition offered by the Youth Opportunity Fund within the Kiwanis International Foundation. Contributions can be made on behalf of an individual or an entity such as a club, corporation, or organization.
Terry, as he was known, was a member and supporter of the Kiwanis family from the time he joined Key Club as a teenager until his death in 2005. Terry not only was a Kiwanian, joining several clubs and holding offices throughout his life, but he also was a member of the International Office staff for nearly 35 years, serving as manager of club services, Circle K International administrator, and International Secretary (which changed to Executive Director). The Kiwanis International Board of Trustees named him Executive Director Emeritus upon his retirement, at which time he also served as archivist/historian at the International Office.
Recipients of the Shaffer Honorary are presented an award signifying that a minimum contribution of US$1,000 has been given. Shaffer Honorary proceeds are placed in the Key Club International Youth Opportunity Fund. The endowed fund’s earning are used to provide grants in support of Key Club community-service projects and scholarships.
