Silent auction pumps up the volume
There was nothing silent about the Aktion Club of Kokomo, Indiana’s silent auction. The group organized its Fall Harvest Dance at a ballroom and hired a DJ to spin tracks while people danced and bid on various prizes.
The Aktion Club members’ primary job was to convince businesses to donate to the dance. They traveled all around Kokomo and gathered a treasure trove of prizes, including a jewelry box, a woman’s clutch bag, restaurant gift cards, and oil change gift cards.
Members of their sponsoring Kokomo Golden K Kiwanis club, as well as many others from the community, paid $7 for admission to take part in the event. Many members came just to support their club and to bust some moves on the dance floor, but a few took part in the auction. One member won the clutch bag, while another won a free game of bowling.
Advisor Pamela Newman says the Aktion Club is planning its third annual Fall Harvest Dance; however, this year live music, such as a piano player or a local band, will entertain guests.
“They worked hard all throughout the event,” Pamela says. |
