A Kiwanis miracle

“I first joined Kiwanis to be a part of my community. I also wanted to be a part of this awesome service club I had heard so much about from my brother. After attending my first Miracle Mile of Quarters celebration in 2000, I decided I wanted to be part of this awesome committee I had seen do great things.

“Though enjoying what we did for the (San Diego Children’s) hospital, my being a part of the committee did not become a personal thing until my great-nephew Jess became very ill with a liver ailment. His own pediatrician was not so sure how to treat him, so my sister Kathy knew there had to be a children’s hospital somewhere in the area that could help.

“Jess was flown from Miles City, Montana, to Denver, Colorado, where he spent 14 days and nights at The Children’s Hospital. Today, he is healthy, happy, and giving both his brother and parents heck just like a normal child. The only difference is that every so often he must go to the doctor for a checkup.

“I think you can see why I am a Kiwanian and honored and proud to be a part of the Division 100 Miracle Mile of Quarters (Kiwanis) club project that benefits San Diego’s children’s hospital.”—A Kiwanis Moment from John Overman of the Grossmont-Heartland (California) Kiwanis club (Editor’s note: Kiwanis’ Rocky Mountain District supports The Children’s Hospital in Denver.)
