Past President Moler led international development

James M. “Jim” Moler, a Kiwanian who led the organization’s development in Europe and Asia, died August 4, 2005, in his hometown of Charles Town, West Virginia.

Jim was a former teacher, principal, banker, and served in the West Virginia legislature from 1973 to 1980.

He joined the Charles Town Kiwanis club in January 1938. He served as club president, lieutenant governor, treasurer, and governor of the West Virginia District . He also served as chairman of the Kiwanis International Committee on Boys and Girls Work and was a member and chairman of the International Committee on Vocational Guidance.

As 1967-68 Kiwanis International President, he helped organize European Kiwanis clubs into the European Federation and expanded the organization into Asia. He gave the Kiwanis International Foundation a boost by initiating the annual Birthday Gift, the forerunner of today’s Annual Club Gift Campaign.

He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Katherine Watson Moler.

Read more about Jim and his service to Kiwanis and his community in the October issue of KIWANIS magazine.
