History scramble answers

How well did you know your Kiwanis history? Here is a chronological listing of the Kiwanis historical events and their dates, which were scrambled in July’s KIWANIS Connected.

1. Kiwanis Club magazine makes its debut. (February 1917)

2. “We Build” becomes the official Kiwanis motto. (1920)

3. Work begins on the McGraw-Hill Building, a block north of the “Magnificent Mile,” one of many buildings to serve as Kiwanis headquarters in Chicago. (March 1931)

4. The Birmingham Convention, which would forever be known as “the cradle of Kiwanis’ rebirth,” is called to order. (1919)

5. Delegates at the Denver Convention unanimously adopt the six “permanent” Objects of Kiwanis. (1924)

6. Canadian and Michigan Kiwanians gather for a ceremony dedicating the first of many “boundary tablets” marking the peaceful boundary between the two North American nations. (1935)

7. The International Board creates the Legion of Honor, designed to recognize Kiwanians with 25 years or more of membership. (1945)

8. An inter-clubbing meeting is officially defined as “one which is jointly planned by two or more clubs and duly announced as such in advance through notices. No less than four members of the visiting club must be in attendance.” (1951)

9. Some 80 percent of delegates to the Kiwanis International Convention vote in favor of allowing women into Kiwanis. (1987)

10. Kiwanis launches the Worldwide Service Project. (1993)
