Meet Niel Van Engelen

Niel Van EngelenKey Club of North Lambton Secondary School in Forest, Ontario

Grade: 12

District office: Lieutenant governor of Eastern Canada’s Division 1

Previous offices: Club vice-president for two years

Favorite service project: “I have always enjoyed participating in the Major Emphasis Project the most. My sponsoring Kiwanis club stages a bike rodeo every year with the help of our Key Club. It has always been a very enjoyable day and great to help all the young children learn how to ride their bikes and the necessary precautions that will keep them safe.”

Favorite recruiting tip: “The best recruiting tip I can give is to promote your club and your actions as much as possible! Too many people are unaware of what Key Club is really all about and how much it does for the community. We have a club information session in our gym at the beginning of the school year. Key Club sets up a table and hands out information to the students while explaining what we are really all about.”

Goal for coming year: “T he majority of our club has graduated during the past two years. I would like to try and restore some strong numbers to our club so we may continue being effective, active, and distinguished.”

Summer fun: “With summer comes the belief that Key Club stops. However, it does not. Key Club continues all year! The summer is actually the best time to do service projects and fundraisers. I encourage everyone to continue working in your Key Club over the summer months.”

Future career plans: “I still haven’t been able to decide what I want to do ‘when I grow up.’ There are simply too many choices, and nothing seems to stand out for me.”
