My Kiwanis moment

KIWANIS Connected readers were asked to share their “Kiwanis Moment”—a special memory of an event that inspired them to be a Kiwanian forever. Here are samples of their responses.

- Bonnie Nickles, Kiwanis Club of the Colorado River, Bullhead City, Arizona

“Watching a seven-year-old boy—who had never even been on a boat, much less held a fishing pole—pull his first fish from our lake during our annual fishing derby. I knew then we were opening more doors for kids than we even realized!”

- Dennis Beville, Kiwanis Club of Plymouth, Indiana

“Delivering Christmas baskets, and going to a home with the snow blowing and on the ground. Two young children came out of the house with no shoes, barely any clothing, and saying, ‘I didn’t think you would come this year.’”

- Dorothy Brown, Kiwanis Club of South St. Catherine, Jamaica

“When I worked on the talent showcase for my club, it was a pleasure watching children ranging from ages three to seven singing and dancing.”

- Emilio M. Piansay, Kiwanis Club of Davao City, the Philippines

“Joy, happiness, and fulfillment are words beyond description since I joined and served Kiwanis. No amount of money matches the value of making homeless and parentless children smile as I spent time with them singing and dancing. The day-to-day challenges made me strong, energetic, and optimistic at 72. Kiwanis is life.”
