Lunch proceeds benefit hospital
Women
and children at Cambridge Memorial Hospital in Cambridge, Ontario, can
rest easier now, because of the Kiwanis Club of Cambridge
and hundreds of volunteers.
Volunteers at the 21st Annual Kiwanis Ploughman’s Lunch served 1,500
meals at CDN$10 each for the fundraiser, turning the hospital’s front
parking lot into a makeshift drive-thru cafeteria. Kiwanians and other
volunteers packed the lunches using an assembly-line formation, and served
them to customers who walked up to the tent or drove in. Some lunches
even were delivered.
The
fundraiser was a huge success, according to club president Deb Mosey.
“I personally get such a rewarding feeling seeing the community come
together at our event under the tent, as well as the whole club spirit
in assembling the lunches prior. …It is volunteering at its very best!”
she says.
The money donated equaled $9,000 (after expenses) and went toward buying
new beds for the women and children unit at the hospital.
