E-mails brighten troops’ morale

Kiwanis clubs can do a lot with a little. Take, for instance, the Kiwanis Club of All Ohio-Emedina , a self-described small Internet club.

“One of our members read about e-mailing the (United States) troops in a letter from Dear Abby,” says club secretary Jeri Penn. “The club reacted enthusiastically. It seemed like a natural fit for an Internet club.

“Members were asked to log on to the Web site and write a letter to a service member,” she says. “They would then report to the club as to how often they had done so.

“Everyone ended up participating in this simple, yet far-reaching project, and it has been a continuous project since our club was formed in 2003. Other clubs have now joined with us.”

Jeri says her club plans on continuing this project as long as necessary.

“This is a way that a small Internet club can reach out in service to our global community.”
