Aktion Club helping children sleep better

Aktion Club is following in the footsteps of other Kiwanis-family groups by taking on its first International Service Initiative.

Thousands upon thousands of children have no safe place to sleep during the night, and Aktion Club is working with Sleeping Children Around the World (SCAW) to change that.

SCAW provides bed kits to needy children. The kits include a mat or mattress, pillow, sheet, blanket, mosquito net (if applicable), clothing, towel, and school supplies, and cost US$28/CAD$30 each. Aktion Clubs will work with SCAW to collect donations to provide the kits to children.

The Kiwanis International Foundation also is helping Aktion Club as it launches the initiative with SCAW. The Foundation awarded Aktion Club a US$10,000 grant. Each club will receive a maximum US$200 in matching gifts for donations to SCAW.

“The Kiwanis International Foundation Board voted to give Aktion Club a matching grant for its efforts to help Sleeping Children Around the World,” says director Dan Borba. “Sleep is one of the most important components in the development of a child, and this program aims to provide those children without a bed a comfortable place to sleep. We were happy to help part of our Kiwanisfamilyto continue to serve the children of the world.”
