Builders Club claps ‘High 5’ with Key Club

Builders Club, which already is the largest service organization for middle school students, is ramping up the service this year by joining Key Club International in adopting an initiative that focuses on children’s health.

“High 5 for Health,” encourages clubs to raise awareness and serve their communities’ needs to promote positive health habits in children in the areas of play, nutrition, and wellness.

“There’s a natural connection here,” says Dave Wohler, director of Builders Club. “Builders are in the target group; they are just starting to develop their lifestyle choices, so it’s the golden age to introduce and help develop healthy habits.”

So, in addition to learning more about service by presenting the High 5 for Health information to children in elementary schools, K-Kids clubs, boys and girls clubs, or wherever there’s a youthful audience, Builders will be reinforcing the message to each other.

In addition, it’s hoped that this will become a Kiwanis-family affair by having Builders and Key Club members team up to present the information to youth.

“Builders-age children look to high schoolers as role models,” Dave says. “They relate easily with them. What better high school role models than Key Clubbers? When children focus on helping children, it’s a win-win for everyone from the organizations to the individual members.”
