Here's a K-Kids issue to care about

Pledge anchors kids' commitment to service

“As a K-Kid, I promise to serve my neighborhood and my school; I will show respect toward environment; and I will try to make the world a better place in which to live.” So notes the K-Kids motto.

Members of the newly formed K-Kids Club of North Myrtle Beach Elementary School, South Carolina, already are upholding their pledge.

For their first community-service project, the K-Kids read to children in their school’s Child Development Program. K-Kids chose library books each week and took turns reading to the class.

“The children and teachers alike look forward each day seeing their student reader,” says K-Kids faculty advisor Renee Long.

The student volunteers also collect drink aluminum can tabs from their schools’ classrooms and haul them to the Ronald McDonald House for its recycling/fundraising program.

The club also heads up the school’s March of Dimes fundraiser.
