Late flu shots still offer protection

Didn’t get a flu shot this year? It’s not too late!

While getting an annual flu vaccination in October or November offers the best protection, the flu season can last well into spring; so, getting the shot now still will offer several months of protection.

“Getting vaccinated in December will also help prevent the spread of influenza,” says Elizabeth Warren, service programs manager at Kiwanis International.

Kiwanis clubs can use this advice to protect themselves, as well as spread the word as part of THRIVE—Tackling the Health and Risk of Influenza with Vaccination and Education.

THRIVE is a three-pronged Kiwanis initiative designed to promote the facts and importance of flu vaccinations. By participating in THRIVE—even now—clubs can educate and protect their communities.

THRIVE kits are available to United States clubs by contacting Elizabeth by e-mail at ewarren@kiwanis.org or by phone at 800-549-2647, ext. 211. Visit the Web site of the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention for more flu information.
