My Kiwanis Moment
Love BUG strikes couple

Valentine’s Day is special for many couples, but Valentine’s Day 2007 took the cake—the wedding cake—for Bullhead City, Morning, Arizona, Kiwanians Ash Todd and Brandy Creel. The couple exchanged marriage vows during the club’s Valentine’s Day fundraiser dinner, and their wedding was officiated by fellow Bullhead City Kiwanian and Justice of the Peace Tom Brady.
Says Kiwanis groom Ash:
“I’m extremely involved in the BUG program. After Brandy went with me to BUG for the first time, she was saying how awesome it is. She was impressed with Kiwanis’ impact on the kids.
“During that program, I told the kids I would tell them what Kiwanis is—and if anyone could tell me next time what Kiwanis is, I would give them a dollar. I then told them Kiwanis’ defining statement, that Kiwanis is a global organization of volunteers dedicated to changing the world one child and one community at a time.
“Well, that really impressed Brandy. That was the moment she truly realized what Kiwanis is about. Until then, she knew there was a club and that we did social and service events, but when she heard (the defining statement) and the global scope of Kiwanis’ work, that was really meaningful to her.”
Ash sponsored his bride-to-be in Kiwanis membership, and she joined the club just two weeks before their Valentine’s Day wedding.
