My Kiwanis Moment

What a beautiful Christmas was experienced by more than 300 unprivileged children in the area of Usme. There, in the farther edge of our city where many displaced people live in limited conditions, the Kiwanis Club of Bogotá, Colombia, has provided social assistance for more than 10 years.
A simple formula collected presents for the Christmas party: Members grabbed their personal phone books—the one with just their friends’ numbers: “Hola Querida Amiga” (Hello, my dear friend). Do you want to contribute a present to give to a very poor child who never has known a Christmas party? A radiant happiness will show in the little faces of these children, and the excitement of their hearts will be your compensation.”
Great excitement I experienced when I saw the strong response to the cause. The friends told other friends who also contributed little presents, and these third people told a fourth person. That’s how a great chain of volunteers with noble hearts was created and contributed hundreds of presents for underprivileged children.
It was very easy, and it didn’t cost a dime. And as a result, the Kiwanis image is at a very high level. Everyone knows we help children. It is an honor to be a Kiwanian because of the charisma we have before the society.—Manuel Camacho, Kiwanis Club of Bogotá, Colombia |
