Kiwanis International Service Projects
There are many perils that face the children of the world today. Kiwanis
International is dedicated to eliminating those perils and giving children
everywhere better lives and higher standards of living through service
programs.
Young Children: Priority One (YCPO) is a continuing
service program of Kiwanis International that addresses the needs of children
prenatal through age five. Because it is a constant program, Kiwanis clubs
are urged to carry out at least two projects every year—one program that
addresses a local children’s need and one that supports the Worldwide
Service Project.
The Worldwide Service Project is another enduring program focused on
the elimination of iodine deficiency disorders (IDD).
IDD is the number one preventable cause of mental retardation in children.
The Worldwide Service Project has raised awareness of the dilemma and
has been a huge factor in helping to drasticly reduce the cases of IDD
around the world.
Kiwanians are also encouraged to take part in Read Around the
World, an annual program that spans the month of February advocating
the importance of reading with children. Schools, Key Clubs, Circle K
clubs and Kiwanis clubs can organize a Read Around the World program and
help the youth of the world experience the joys of reading.
